Big Matilda (369) is now air conditioned. Little Petunia (our prototype car for this project) has four roof-mounted air conditioners; Matilda has eight. On a test run one hot summer's day, we got Matilda's interior down to 53 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course we would not run the units that high and freeze out out passengers, but it demonstrates the efficiency of our air conditioning units not surprising when each unit is rated at 1 1/4 tons.
The Green Dragon came into the barn to have her eight units installed and receive some cosmetic touch ups, but had to go right back on the line as our almost 100-year old Rosie (122) developed a slight problem with one of her motors. She was only out of service for a couple of days as our talented shop crew was able to complete the minor repairs quickly.
All of our cars are vintage veterans with modifications, but Rosie will be maintained as our "museum car" and will not be air conditioned.
Winnie (143) is still a "car barn queen" while awaiting a working KM unit (one of the critical parts of a PCC's mechanical components). A replacement is being shipped to us and we should have her in running order very soon.
