grows. In 2005, (excluding charters) 193,724 people rode
the McKinney Avenue Trolley a 20% increase over 2004.

September 5, 2005: MATA raises
money for hurricane relief. On Labor Day we put all five
of our streetcars (as well as our speeder) into service at
one time. 1,022 people turned out to ride. Voluntary fare
box contributions raised $458.59 to be donated to the Red
Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief. The event was an operational
challenge while our electric trolleys ruled the streets of
Uptown, but it was completed without a hitch. Not only did
everyone have a good time but also many victims of Katrina
will be benefited thanks to the generosity of our riders.
