Current Events and Announcements

February 18, 2006: Special service to the Captain’s Hope Mardi Gras Race. Trolleys will begin operating about 7:00 a.m. and run every 15 minutes until 8:30 when the race starts. Passengers will be picked up at City Place station and dropped off at the Hard Rock Cafe. There will be no downtown service until our normal startup time at 10:00 AM.

January 22, 2006: Website changes. A major redesign of our website is underway. Check back often to catch our new look and functionality.

January 1, 2006: MATA ridership grows. In 2005, (excluding charters) 193,724 people rode the McKinney Avenue Trolley — a 20% increase over 2004. We have exciting plans up our sleeves for 2006 and expect our patronage to grow even more!

September 5, 2005: MATA raises money for hurricane relief. On Labor Day we put all five of our streetcars (as well as our speeder) into service at one time. 1,022 people turned out to ride. Voluntary fare box contributions raised $458.59 to be donated to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief. The event was an operational challenge while our electric trolleys ruled the streets of Uptown, but it was completed without a hitch. Not only did everyone have a good time but also many victims of Katrina will be benefited thanks to the generosity of our riders.

August 2004: D Magazine names The McKinney Avenue Trolley as one of a "Best in Big D."
