Bach on The Trolley
The M-LINE Trolley hosted “Bach on the Trolley”, part of the world-wide celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday known as ‘Bach in the Subways’.
Local musician Mark Landson of Open Classical is joining an international movement to put classical music where the people are and sow the seeds for new generations of listeners and players. Working with WRR 101.1 FM and the McKinney Avenue Trolley, Mark will be playing Bach’s compositions on the trolley.
Mark Landson is a violinist, violist, composer, the founder and Director of Open Classical, and the founder and violist of contemporary music group Neo Camerata.
Music will also be provided by Dina Nesterenko on the violin and John Stuart on the cello.
Mark, Dina, and John will join thousands of musicians across the world for a new annual tradition celebrating Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday on March 21st: perform Bach in public – subways, parks, cafés, zoos, and other public spaces –inviting people into the world of classical music.
“Our mission is to bring Bach to as many people around the world as possible,” says Dale Henderson, the New York City-based cellist who founded Bach in the Subways Day in 2010 and leads the movement today. “My long-term vision for Bach in the Subways,” Henderson says, “is to bring a renaissance of interest and inspiration and excitement about classical music to, ideally, the globe.”
2023’s celebration will be large and global, transcending cultural boundaries and engaging musicians of all talent levels and instruments.
